In Tibetan Buddhism, the Citipati are a pair of skeletal protector deities, often depicted dancing together within flames. Despite their fearsome appearance, they are not symbols of evil or death. According to Buddhist tradition, the Citipati were once devoted spiritual practitioners whose meditation was interrupted by death. Through enlightenment, they became guardians of sacred teachings, protecting practitioners from obstacles and ignorance.
